Tomatoes Recalled in 14 States Due to Salmonella Risk

Two tomato brands have been recalled in 14 states due to potential salmonella contamination, according to the Food and Drug Administration. Ray & Mascari Inc. recalled four-count Vine Ripe tomatoes sold by Gordon Food Service Stores across 11 states, including New York, Illinois, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. This recall was initiated after Ray & Mascari Inc. was informed by their supplier, Hanshaw & Caping Farms of Immokalee, Florida, about possible salmonella contamination in their facility. Symptoms of salmonella infection include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. While no illnesses have been reported yet, the FDA advises consumers to discard or return unopened tomatoes. The affected tomatoes were sold in plastic clamshells labeled “VINE RIPE TOMATOES” with “Packed by Ray & Mascari Inc.” Other impacted states include Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Mississippi, Tennessee, Ohio, and Wisconsin. Additionally, Williams Farms Repack LLC recalled tomatoes distributed to wholesalers in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia between April 23-28, 2025.
