Just a month before the opening of its Epic Universe expansion in Orlando, Universal Destinations & Experiences has confirmed plans to build a new theme park in the United Kingdom. Last June, UDX conducted feasibility and due diligence studies, culminating in today’s announcement. The project is contingent upon securing planning approval, with a proposal to be submitted to the UK Government in the coming months. Construction is projected to begin in 2026.
The site, located near Bedford approximately 60 miles northwest of London, spans 476 acres. Mike Cavanagh, President of Comcast Corporation, emphasized the significance of this milestone for the company’s global theme parks business. The project is anticipated to bring £50 billion in direct and indirect benefits to the UK, including 20,000 construction jobs and 8,000 operational positions once the park opens.
The resort will feature a theme park with multiple themed lands, a 500-room hotel, and a retail, dining, and entertainment complex. This marks the first Universal-branded theme park in the UK and Europe. Mark Woodbury, Chairman and CEO of Universal Destinations & Experiences, highlighted the potential for growth and reaching new audiences in Europe.
