Warner Bros. Discovery to Shut Down Multiple Multiplex Channels

Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) is shutting down several multiplex channels, including HBO Family, ThrillerMax, MovieMax, and OuterMax, effective August 15. This decision is part of WBD’s strategy to streamline its collection of additional linear channels often bundled with HBO or Cinemax subscriptions. The move comes amid declining viewership for linear premium channels as audiences shift to streaming services like HBO Max. HBO Family, which launched in 1996, featured kid-friendly content and some original programming. Cinemax multiplex channels such as ThrillerMax, MovieMax, and OuterMax will also cease operations. HBO continues to offer other multiplex channels like HBO2, HBO Signature, HBO Comedy, HBO Zone, and HBO Latino.
